A view from the Eyecare Trust
As you will have no doubt read in the optical trade press we have
announced some exciting plans for National Eye Week 2007 (if not, see link below for details). This year we’d like to encourage as many practitioners as possible to get involved in the campaign which is being supported by the LOC Central Fund.

Testing the testers
The Trust has urged people not to be put-off having an eye examination following the publication of the damning ‘Testing the Testers’ article in the Sepember issue of Which?.
To help people understand what to expect when they have their sight tested the Trust has published its eye examination leaflet on the internet.
Back To School Exams
At the start of the new school year the Trust launched a campaign to highlight the importance of sight tests for kids. One in five school-aged children has an undiagnosed vison problem that could inhibit their ability to learn.

What the paper's say
Press coverage generated by the Trust during August created more than 30 million opportunities for the public to see positive eye care messages. Coverage included a Radio Five Live report as well as articles in The Daily Telegraph, The Sun, Daily Mail, The Independent and Healthy magazine.
National Eye Week 2007
The 13th annual National Eye Week will run between 10 - 16 December and focus on eye care for the over 60s.
The 60 plus campaign will highlight how one in three people aged 60 and over are missing out on vital NHS sight checks and putting themselves at increased risk of avoidable sight loss.
Shady road safety
The Trust teamed up with Shelias’ Wheels in early August to promote safe summer eye wear for drivers.
The campaign generated wide-spread coverage across the national and regional media.
In addition to the press campaign the Trust also published a fact sheet full of advice about choosing suitable eye wear for driving.
Student membership
New sudents are being invited
to join the charity’s student membership scheme. Membership is free and open to anyone stuying an optics related discipline.
Screen tests
The Trust has teamed up with HealthSure to raise awareness of employers’ responsibilities to provide staff who use a VDU with regular sight tests.
