Our Vision for the Future

The Eyecare Trust has published a Charity Plan for the period 2011 – 2014.

The plan describes the charity’s strategic intentions for the next three years and provides a clear framework for helping to raise the profile of optics and deliver a significant improvement in public eye health across the UK.

Key objectives set out in the plan include encouraging one million more Brits to get their eyes examined regularly and forming a series of strategic alliance to help tackle issues such as sight loss caused by an ageing population and the burgeoning obesity crisis.

Commenting on the publication Dharmesh Patel, Chairman of the Trust, said: “Throughout this plan we have identified some major challenges that we, and the wider ophthalmic community, must address if we are to succeed in making eyecare a public health priority and reduce avoidable sight loss.

Dharmesh continues: “Unfortunately, all too often eyecare doesn’t even register on people’s health agenda so we need to help optics find its voice and communicate essential eye health advice and information that resonates with the widest possible audience.”
